Think about the last hour you spent on your phone. You scrolled a feed. You watched a couple of ads you didn’t ask for. You tapped through a game that begged you to buy coins, watch a video, or wait out a timer. You paid for all of it — not with money, but with the one thing you can never get back: your attention. And at the end of that hour, what did you have to show for it? Somebody else got richer. You got a little more tired.

We started Geode because that trade felt backwards. Your time and attention are genuinely valuable — that’s exactly why billion-dollar companies fight so hard to capture them. So this month we want to prove a simple idea in the most fun way we can: on Geode, your attention pays you back instead of draining you. And the easiest place to feel that flip is the arcade.

Games Where You Earn Real Coin

Most mobile games are built to extract. Geode’s games are built so your skill earns you GEODE coin. There are lots of them live right now, and they’re all wrapped around formats you already know by heart:

  • Naval Combat — the classic hunt-and-sink naval game, except you’re refighting history’s great sea battles against a cunning AI admiral. Every ship you sink and every engagement you win earns coin.
  • Treasure Hunt — a lost-jungle-temple twist on the tile-clearing classic. Every square is either ancient coin or a trap that ends your run. Clear the board, escape with the fortune.
  • Geodoku — the number puzzle you already solve with your morning coffee, now with a leaderboard and coin for every win.
  • Geode Quest — a choose-your-own-adventure set in 12th-century Europe: castles, knights, wizards, and a branching path where every choice can lead to glory, a blocked road, or the end of your character. (Geode Quest lives on a Pebble account or higher.)

Notice what all of these have in common: you already know how to play. Nobody has to teach you. You just pick the one that sounds like a good time.

“So What’s the Catch?”

Here’s the honest, unglamorous truth, because it’s the part people always want spelled out. Your Geode account is free to make. You do not need to own any GEODE coin to play Naval Combat, Treasure Hunt, or Geodoku. Instead, you buy a small game pack with regular dollars — 25 cents a game — and that pack quietly covers the tiny network fees that let the blockchain do its job in the background. Then, when you win, you earn GEODE coin.

So the deal is the reverse of the arcade you grew up with. The old arcade took your quarter and gave you a high score. A Geode game pack costs about the same per play, but your skill can win coin back. Pay pennies, play a game you already love, and keep what you earn.

One tip that saves new players a headache: payouts are on demand. As you rack up rewards, there’s a payout button — tap it to bank what you’ve won. Wander off without paying out and you can lose those rewards. So the rule is simple: pay out early, pay out often.

Why an Arcade Is Really a Lesson in Disguise

It might seem strange that a serious blockchain foundation is telling you to go play a number puzzle. But the games aren’t a gimmick — they’re the clearest one-round explanation of the whole Geode idea. Every big platform you use makes money by standing between you and other people, taking a cut of your attention on the way through. Geode replaces those middlemen with smart contracts, so the value flows to you instead.

The games are just the first and friendliest example. Once you’ve felt a game pay you for playing well, the rest of the ecosystem stops feeling abstract:

  1. You learn by doing. By the time you’ve won a round, you’ve made an account, navigated the portal, and earned real coin — the exact steps that scare people off when they’re written as a checklist.
  2. The stakes are pocket change. A quarter a game. You get to feel how Geode works for less than the price of a gumball.
  3. It’s genuinely fun. Most “learn crypto” experiences feel like homework. This one you’ll actually want to do again.

This Month We’re Coming for Your Inbox

Here’s where we’re headed over the next few weeks. The games prove your attention can earn. But there’s a place where you’ve been giving away even more for free: your inbox. Right now, strangers, advertisers, and every list you ever half-joined can land in front of your eyes for nothing. Later this month we’ll show you a Geode app that flips that too — where advertisers have to pay you to reach you. Same principle as the arcade, pointed at your messages.

For this week, the assignment is small and fun: pick the game that already sounds like you. Strategy? Naval Combat. Puzzles? Geodoku. Adventure? Treasure Hunt. A grand quest? Geode Quest. Try one at https://geodeapps.com/#/geode/gaming and feel what it’s like to have the internet pay you for a change.

Next week we’ll walk through making your free account and grabbing your first pack, step by step, so you can claim your first win. For now, just remember the big idea: you’ve been paying to play this whole time. It’s time to have some of that come back your way.
